Troy Waymaster Running for 109th Seat

Russell County native and resident Troy Waymaster announced Thursday he will run in the Republican Primary for the 109th Kansas House District seat on August 7.

The seat is currently occupied by Dan Collins, but he has decided not to see re-election.

Waymaster, a Republican, was raised in Russell County and wants to represent all of the citizens of the 109th Kansas House District. His goal is to preserve the culture and economy of Central and Western Kansas.

Waymaster says, “It is important that we have adequate representation in Topeka.  With the loss of population in Central and Western Kansas, it is pivotal that we have a strong legislator who can voice the needs and concerns of those in the 109th District and all Kansans.”

Waymaster, a 1996 graduate of Russell High School and a 2000 graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Political Science, has built his professional career in the areas of Agriculture, Finance and Banking.

Waymaster has also been involved in the political process in the past.  He participated in many events of Senator Robert Dole’s Presidential campaign in 1996, including the 1996 Republican National Convention.  He was also a legislative intern during the legislative sessions of 1998 and 1999.  While attending the University of Kansas, he was involved with Young Republicans.

Waymaster has also been heavily involved in the Russell Community.  Currently he is a board member and Secretary/Treasurer of the Russell Area Chamber of Commerce and Past President of Russell Main Street Inc.  He is also a member of the following organizations:  Rotary Club of Russell, Men’s Auxiliary of VFW Post #6240, ISIS Russell Shrine Club, Elks BPOE #1715, Kansas Mason Blue Lodge #177, Kansas York Rite and the Alumni Association of the University of Kansas.  Waymaster was involved with the 2011 Russell Prairiesta Celebration as a Committee Chair, a judge for the past two years for the Voice of Democracy, Friend of the Deines Cultural Center and Community Advisor for the 100 Amazing Miles.

The current 110th Kansas House District consists of the following counties:  Russell, Rooks, Osborne and Rural Ellis.  The counties in the district could change with the final passage of redistricting later in the 2012 Legislative Session.

If you would like more information about the candidacy of Troy Waymaster, please contact the campaign’s treasurer James Malone at 785-483-6220.
